“If you get to the end of the scene and there isn’t a definitive punch line, it’s a free-for-all”: Noah Wyle, Gina Bellman, Beth Riesgraf and Aleyse Shannon on Leverage: Redemption season two

Leverage: Redemption is the revival of the cult-hit American crime drama series Leverage, which ran for five seasons, and features much of the original cast. After the success of the first season, the show is returning with a second on free streaming service Amazon Freevee. The action follows a team of modern-day Robin Hood characters of sorts, who use each use their set of skills from a criminal past to instead steal from the wealthy and corrupt to help out the little guys, and in the process find redemption for themselves.

For season two, expect a host of new bad guys, from a husband-and-wife team running a multi-level marketing scam to a shipping magnate dumping boatloads of plastic waste and a music producer who abuses his position over vulnerable women, while the leverage team use all manner of undercover tricks of the trade to teach the evil-doers of this world a lesson. There’s plenty of humour and action scenes, and while the series doesn’t take itself too seriously, it does hit on many an issue relevant in the contemporary world blighted by corporate greed and power.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of chatting with the show’s main cast ahead of it landing on Amazon Freevee. Noah Wyle of ER fame spoke about the fun of taking on the role of former lawyer Harry Wilson and working alongside a brilliant ensemble cast including Christian Kane.

British actress Gina Bellman spoke about how she sees her character Sophie Devereaux, her development over the course of the series and some of the moments she’s most enjoyed on set. 

Beth Riesgraf and Aleyse Shannon also shared their reflections on playing Parker, the team’s thief and mastermind, and Breanna Casey, a sarcastic and intelligent hacker, plus stepping into a show with such a legacy and fan base.
