The Mutton launches first wine festival to celebrate English Wine Week

The Mutton at Hazeley Heath will host its inaugural English Wine Festival this Saturday as part of English Wine Week. The one-day event, held in the grounds of the award-winning Hampshire pub, will feature tastings from leading local vineyards, live music and a selection of regional food and drink, with the aim of bringing together producers and the public to celebrate the growing profile of English wine.

English Wine Week, which runs from 21st to 29th June throughout the UK, is an annual campaign to promote the country’s wine industry. The Mutton’s festival will include participation from several regional vineyards, such as Hattingley Valley, Exton Park Vineyard and Louis Pommery, who will offer samples of their wines and be available to discuss their production methods and history with attendees.

Each guest will receive a glass to use throughout the event, allowing them to move between stalls and sample different offerings. In addition to tastings, the day will feature a Sommelier’s Table experience, led by house sommelier Xavier Le Bellgo, who organisers say brings “over three decades of international experience – from Michelin-starred kitchens in France and the US to some of the UK’s most iconic restaurants”.

The event is not limited to wine: local spirit producers Gin Chin and Fr’um (with their pineapple and smoked scotch bonnet rum) will provide samples of their small-batch spirits. Artisan food will also be available, including baked goods from U Bakery and cheeses from Village Maid Cheese. Additional food offerings will include street food-style dishes, such as grilled steak baguettes with chimichurri, loaded corn on the cob and tacos with a variety of fillings including sea bream, grilled chicken and vegetarian options like beetroot and courgette. A large sharing paella, with choices of chicken, chorizo or prawns, will also be served. Alongside the food and drink, a pop-up gallery will showcase work by local artist Ingrid Berry, and live music is scheduled throughout the afternoon with performances from To The River, Stereo Silence and vocalist Laura Masterson.
