ACME Fire Cult brings live-fire Sunday roasts to Rondo for October takeover
Rondo, the restaurant inside The Hoxton in Holborn, is handing over its Sunday service to Dalston live-fire restaurant ACME Fire Cult for four Sundays this October, with mezcal-based drinks from Oaxaca producer Ilegal Mezcal mixed alongside the food. The roasts will take place on 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th October, with bookings from midday and the last sitting at 4pm at 199-206 High Holborn.
The collaboration is the second in the Rondo Residencies series, which began this summer with the Long Lunch Club with Casa Lawa. The October menu combines Rondo’s seasonal British produce with the Mexican-influenced grilling style of ACME Fire Cult, the concept that was founded by chef Andrew Clarke in a disused Hackney car park during the pandemic before it settled into a permanent site in Dalston.
Starters include Coal-Roast Leeks with Pipián Verde, Jalapeño and Ricotta, Roast Delica Pumpkin with Mezcal-Agave Glaze and Black Fig, a Raw Tuna Tostada with Chipotle, Avocado and Salsa Macha, and Grilled Scallop Served in the Shell with Smoked Bacon and Chilli Butter and Guindilla Pepper.
The centrepiece is a sharing Sunday roast platter at £29 per person (with a minimum of two people), presenting roast beef rump with bone marrow salsa roja, crispy pork belly with gooseberry-poblano ketchup, achiote chicken leg, lamb kofte with pickled peppers, grilled Kalibos cabbage and agave Jersey Royals. Alternatively, there’s a vegetarian main of Adobo King Oyster Mushrooms with Charred Corn and Tomatillo Salsa. Add-ons run from Grilled Tenderstem Broccoli with Salsa Macha and Agave Jersey Royals to Roast Bone Marrow and Slow-Roast Ox Cheek.
For dessert, the team are serving up a Chocolate and Black Mole Ganache with Cherries and Crème Fraîche or a Burnt Eton Mess with Guava and Strawberry Compote and Fresh Berries. Drinks include Bloody Marias, mezcal margaritas and palomas, plus the Gildaback, a shot of Ilegal Joven served with a gilda on the side in place of the pickleback’s usual brine chaser.
Separately, ACME Tacos will occupy the hotel lobby throughout October as part of the Hox Sarnie Series, serving a smoked lamb shoulder taco with mezcal asador pineapple for £14, available daily from midday. Guests travelling in for the roasts can also use The Hoxton’s Weekend Pass, which combines an overnight stay with up to £150 of food and drink credit.
