Possible Love: On the red carpet with Zo In-sung, Cho Yeo-jeong, Sul Kyung-gu, Jeon Do-yeon and Lee Chang-dong at London Film Festival 2026

Secret Sunshine and Burning director Lee Chang-dong is back with another hard-hitting film in Possible Love. Uncomfortably honest and ruthlessly captivating, the story follows two couples and the tangled relationships that arise as they navigate working together and building their own. Ye-ji is an accomplished director who hopes to create a documentary about the restructuring of SP Heavy Industries and its impact on laid-off workers’ lives. Fascinated by Ho-seok after a run-in with him and his family at a funeral, she hopes to use him as the main subject of her film. Throughout the process, she appears to get closer to Ho-seok’s wife, Mi-ok. Meanwhile, her husband, Sang-woo, indulges her in this venture, spending money on dinners with the other couple and even inviting them to his summer home. As the four adults face the fallout of the restructuring and filming, romantic tensions rise between Sang-woo and Mi-ok; meanwhile, Ho-seok’s mental struggles are brought to light during his interviews with Ye-ji.
The Upcoming caught up with the lead actors and director of Possible Love, with Zo and Cho giving an introduction to the film and its themes. They mostly focused on the meaning of the search for love and the symbolism behind their characters. Zo referred to Sang-woo as a metaphor for capitalism, while Cho – who plays Ye-ji, the filmmaker – described her role as an ode to director Lee’s perspective.
Lee also came to give his two cents on what he hoped to achieve with his feature, emphasising the importance of the audience’s interpretation of the story and their response to each character’s journey. He highlighted the film as a story about human connections, amidst discussions of labour and human rights in the rise of automation and the use of AI.
Finally, Sul and Jeon stopped by with fascinating insights into the picture, with Sul discussing the mental and physical trauma his character, Ho-seok, faced. Jeon, on the other hand, revealed how the series of unfortunate events affects her character, Mi-ok, especially as she rebuilds a home from the fractured remains of her husband. They closed the carpet with a celebration of Possible Love’s London Film Festival premiere after touring it across different countries and festivals, highlighting the universality of its themes and how Lee, as the director, always puts human stories and connection at the forefront of his filmmaking.
