Spring has sprung: Ways to wear floral

Spring has sprung: Ways to wear floral

As the warmer days are slowly creeping upon us, it’s time to embrace one of the biggest trends of this season: floral. Yes, we know it feels like floral has been around forever and we can’t seem to get enough of it, but it seems the designers feel that way too! As the summer/spring 2015 catwalks were streamed with flowers and botanic prints.

Unlike previous collections, this season it’s less about cute little daisy dresses or floral skinnies, instead it’s all about the romantic and the over-the-top. Think “summer of love”, with a hint of couture.

Alexa Chung wore this high-neck pink dress from Erdem, to the Elle Style Awards in February. It seems the drop-waist shape and organza fabric are still on trend this spring. However, the floral embroidery in this piece deter it from the usual connotations of a sweet summer dress and give it a raw edge. 3D floral is set to be huge this summer and it’s just like Alexa to be ahead of the group. Teamed with simple, black, ankle-strap heels, this combo would be perfect for a sunny weekend and is just the right mixture of bohemian and chic.

Keira Knightley pleased fans when she wore this whimsical Valentino dress earlier this year. The nude, tulle dress, made Keira look as though she were almost floating. It’s good to accompany floor-length dresses with simple accessories; Keira wore a small, crystal headband and left her arms bare. The whole idea for the trends this season is to let one garment do all the talking and Keira has done exactly that here.

If you’re feeling a bit more daring and not really feeling the Woodstock vibe, then why not try embracing floral like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Whilst attending a Burberry event earlier this month Rosie wore this V-neck mini dress from the brand. This would be perfect for fancy evenings as it eludes sophistication. Although the cut is a brave one, we think teamed with flats and a clutch, this look will be easy to rock.

Kendall Jenner stole the show at Chanel when she graced the catwalk in this 50s inspired floral skirt. Worn with a dainty, cropped, sheer black blouse and patent boots, Kendall showed the audience how to really sell a trend. Again, showing signs that 3D flowers are increasing in popularity, this full skirt was complete with floral appliqués. This piece reminds us of the Carrie Bradshaw in all of us – we can’t wait to wear big, full skirts around the city.
