Director Lars Kraume’s film reenacts real events from 1956 when East German students staged a protest that inadvertently brought them into conflict with their government – a conflict that had rather grave consequences.

We talked to the film’s director about bringing a lesser-known period of Germany’s history to the big screen, as well as how the film was selected for a special Berlinale screening at a Berlin prison.
