Fork to Fork food festival in aid of children’s education returns next month with top chefs
40 of London’s best restaurants, top chefs and food producers will be gathering at this year’s Fork to Fork food festival in Kensal Rise. The unique family event will take place on Saturday 16th June in aid of Art Franklin’s Open Air Classroom, an initiative that supplies outdoor education opportunities for children, promoting healthy eating and creative learning to improve their well-being and understanding of their environment.
Co-founder of Wahaca Thomasina Miers and co-founder of Caravan Laura Harper Hinton first organised the festival three years ago alongside local parents and Ark School professionals, with tickets selling out in 2017. The 2018 line-up so far includes Jeremy Lee of Quo Vadis, Skye Gyngell from Spring, Jose Pizarro and Yotam Ottolenghi, with these chefs – and those of other restaurants from across the capital including Portland, Gail’s Bakery and Shackfuyu – setting up stalls and selling dishes from their menus for only £3.
Jose Pizarro will prepare and cook Squid Ink Croqueta with Prawns and Allioli, while Snaps & Rye will offer visitors their Scandinavian fare: Smoked and Snaps Cured Var Salmon, Pickled Fennel Slaw, Greens and Hazelnuts.
In addition to the plentiful food to be sampled – and cooking demonstrations at the fire-pit – there will be a bar as well as craft beer and artisan wines available, talks, two stages of live music and activities for young festival-goers, including storytelling, crafts and face painting. Tickets for the day are priced at £10 for adults, £2.50 for under 12s and free for under fives, with optional donations welcome.
The charity event will run from 12pm until 6pm, with food available until 4pm, and all the proceeds will be going towards the support of the Open Air Classroom Project. With the money raised, the project plans to expand by creating toolkits to help other schools incorporate outdoor learning into their school day.
