Autoclaves: Weapons in the fight against Covid-19
Desperate measures have been put in place in the fight against coronavirus, from masks and hand sanitiser at home to heavy duty PPE in medical facilities. One of the key players in infection prevention in hospitals has been the use of high-class sterilising devices: autoclaves. The autoclave is currently among the most used equipment in the midst of the pandemic as sterilisation processes can be carried out quickly and effectively, ensuring the best protection against pathogens. Earlier this year, when the pandemic first struck, hospitals and clinics urgently needed the support of producers of medical devices, funded both by the government and privately in the UK and Europe. Why is an autoclave necessary to fight Covid-19?
Nowadays, it is difficult to imagine a successful fight against all microbes and viruses – and the truth is that not all equipment categorised as a “steriliser” is adequately sterilising. There are various sterilisers on the market, and not all of them ensure the best level of safety. The class B autoclave is top of the range, being able to destroy 99.99% of the bacteria and viruses, including their spores. As well as effectively carrying out the vital sterilisation processes, Class B autoclaves have short cycles, they are energy efficient, they have compact dimensions, and their efficacy can be tested at any time.
The advantages provided by autoclaves are of great importance in the current situation, when sterilisation procedures must be performed even more often, and when doctors work long hours without interruption. At the moment in the UK, around 600 people are dying every day of Covid-19, and more than 38,500 patients test positive daily for the virus.
The fight against coronavirus is not over
The aid campaign initiated by Swiss company Enbio Group, during which hospitals received highly specialised medical equipment necessary to combat the crisis, was a great example to the many other suppliers in the market. In a time of acute need, support to the stretched medical institutions continues to be highly appreciated, and of course it has an immediate impact upon society as a whole.
