Legado, the Michelin-starred Shoreditch restaurant from chef Nieves Barragán Mohacho, will open a private dining and events room called Txoko this October, housed on the floor above its main dining room and intended for private hire, collaborative dinners and smaller-scale fine dining bookings.

Seating up to 16 guests for lunch or dinner, the room takes its name from the Basque word for “nook” or “cosy corner”, and references the private gastronomic societies of northern Spain, where members meet to cook and eat together. The txoko has historically been a male preserve, but Barragán Mohacho, one of the most prominent women working in Spanish cooking, has reworked it at Legado, retaining its communal character while opening it to all guests. The new venue adopts the more traditional format.

The design borrows from traditional Spanish bodegas, with drinks served directly from the barrel. Ten will be installed in the room: one large cider barrel holding sagardoa, the Basque cider, and nine smaller barrels containing Spanish wines, sherries and vermouths. Interiors combine oak, sun-bleached terracotta walls and deep wine-coloured tiles under a contemporary version of the timber roof structures found in Spanish bodegas. Geometric motifs, drawn from the work of the sculptor Eduardo Chillida, appear on the privacy curtain and on the velvet upholstery of the dining chairs.

Two set menus will be offered at Txoko, priced at £160 and £220 per person. Both are based on Legado’s asador dishes and served in large terracotta vessels for sharing. Among the dishes is a Bacalao al Bizkaia, a Basque preparation of salt cod, and Marmitako, a tuna stew historically eaten by fishermen.

Legado, meaning “legacy”, was awarded its first Michelin star in February 2026. The restaurant is organised around Spain’s regions, traditions and ingredients, reflecting the chef’s own background between Spain and the UK. Guests enter through a taberna with a bar and deli at one end and a fish display at the other, leading into a double-height dining room.

Talking about the new project, Barragán Mohacho explained, “I wanted to create a space where people could get to know a little more about my references, the things that inspire me and that have been part of my journey. Cooking is a very personal form of expression, and this room allows me to share that dimension in a different way.”
