Bistro Sablé to launch Shoreditch residency above The Princess of Shoreditch pub

A second branch of the French bistro Bistro Sablé will open on the first floor of The Princess of Shoreditch on 1^st October, running as a residency until the end of the year.

The restaurant, operated by Noble Inns, will seat 32 diners in a room above the East London pub, reached by a dedicated entrance and a spiral staircase. It follows the first Bistro Sablé site and brings the same format – traditional French cooking modelled on the dining rooms and bistros of Paris – to a new part of the capital.

The menu will include Rotisserie Chicken, vin jaune and girolles, and Cassoulet au Confit de Canard. Downstairs, the pub will continue to operate in its own right, serving a shorter blackboard menu of Bistro Sablé-inspired dishes aimed at lighter bites and more casual eating, so visitors can choose between a drink and a snack in the bar or a full dinner upstairs.

The first-floor dining room has been redesigned for the residency. It features oversized posters sourced from Parisian flea markets, Parisian-style lighting and plain wooden tables and chairs. A new illuminated sign has been installed on the exterior of the building to mark the restaurant’s presence on the street.

The arrangement is a temporary one, with the residency scheduled to end in December, though the operator has not ruled out what happens to the space after that point. For The Princess of Shoreditch, a pub long established in the neighbourhood, the tie-up represents a change of use for a floor that has previously been part of the pub’s own dining offer.

Bistro Sablé’s Shoreditch outpost will be the second under the name, following the debut site opened by Noble Inns. The group operates a small number of London pubs and dining rooms.

Diners wanting to visit during the residency period should note that the 32-cover capacity is limited, and the upstairs room is separate from the pub below, with its own entrance. Opening hours and booking arrangements for the first-floor restaurant are expected to follow the pub’s existing service pattern, with dinner the main focus upstairs and the ground-floor bar continuing to serve throughout the day.
