The Italian chef Francesco Mazzei is set to open Fiume, a new modern Italian restaurant at Battersea Power Station this summer. The launch is Mazzei’s third since 2015, joining Sartoria on Savile Row and Radici in Islington, and will be open for lunch and dinner. Francesco Mazzei will oversee Fiume (Italian for river) as chef patron, but will hand over the day-to-day running of the kitchen to head chef Francesco Chiarelli.

Chiarelli has worked alongside Francesco for over five years having joined him and his brigade at L’Anima before moving to Sartoria; he not only shares his forename but his Calabrian heritage too. Prior to living in London, Francesco Chiarelli worked as head chef at Cosenza’s Executive Hotel (now known as the Ariha Hotel) in Calabria, Italy.

Fiume will be set within the first phase of the area’s Battersea Power Station £9 billion redevelopment, named Circus West Village, right by the Thames and overlooking the piazza. The 120-cover restaurant will be designed by Macaulay Sinclair and feature an open kitchen complete with wood-fired oven, bar counter dining for 15 covers, and a terrace where up to 50 guests can dine al fresco.

Francesco Mazzei comments: “When I saw the plans for Circus West Village and Battersea Power Station as a whole, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to be involved. It is a one-of-a-kind project that will attract people from all over the world and I cannot wait to feed them all!”

Rob Tincknell, CEO of the Battersea Power Station Development Company, comments: “Francesco Mazzei is an amazing chef with a strong track record and we are delighted that he has chosen Circus West Village at Battersea Power Station to unveil his new concept restaurant. It will add to the wide selection of food offerings, bars, and other businesses that will make this area such an incredible place to live, work or visit.”

Mazzei’s restaurant is part of the restaurant group D&D, it joins other restaurants and businesses opening at Battersea Power Station this this summer including; Pedler Cru, Vagabond, Flour Power City Bakery, The CoffeeWorks Project, The General Store, No 29 Power Station West, Paul Edmonds (the hair and beauty salon), Mother an Italian pizza restaurant from Copenhagen’s cool meat packing district, Wright Brothers, a seafood restaurant, Dodd’s Gin, Ben’s Canteen, (a neighbourhood hang out specialising in burgers, wine and brunch), Duckroad (all day dining specialising in seasonal and simple cooking) and The Village Hall a fringe theatre and events venue.

The Malaysian shareholders of the Battersea Power Station project are committed to giving back to the communities in which they operate.  They recognise the importance of creating shared value and this is embedded in all their undertakings to ensure that they contribute to building a harmonious and caring community.
