Seven great restaurants in London to enjoy this Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day has different meanings for different people: for some it’s an opportunity to show a special person some love; for others it’s an opportunity to be spoiled; sometimes it’s a day to mourn a floundering love life, and for many it’s an excuse for card companies and chocolate factories to cash in. Whichever angle one approaches it from, even those who consider Valentine’s Day a marketing gimmick will concede that it’s a great excuse to indulge in a delicious meal – with a lover, with friends or alone (who says fine dining can’t be enjoyed solo?). London has one of the most exciting restaurant scenes in the world, and now’s the perfect time to check out some of the incredible food on offer. Here are our tips for a memorable night out

Floral effect: The Petersham in Covent Garden

The Petersham is that elegant restaurant just around the corner from King and Floral Street. The interior draw inspiration from the Boglione family home and features seasonally changing floral displays, bringing nature and beauty to the dining room all year. Featuring a six-course Valentine’s Day seasonal tasting menu and live jazz throughout the evening, this is not one to miss.

Fine-dining occasion: The Ledbury in Notting Hill

After their definitive closure in 2020, The Ledbury, one of London’s most celebrated restaurants, has been refurbished and has finally re-opened – just in time for Valentine’s Day. Chef Brett Graham had achieved some of the most coveted awards including two Michelin stars and being voted amongst the 50 Best Restaurants in the world for half a decade. The only catch is that the Ledbury doesn’t actually open on Valentine’s Day so this will be perfect for your Valentine’s weekend.

Gastropub: The White Horse in Mayfair

We live in the cradle of pubs with one on every corner, so where better to spend your date night than in London’s finest? Gastropubs can often provide the most interesting and authentically British experience and located just off Shepherd Market, The White Horse is a hidden treasure just waiting to be found. Cosy and candlelit, this could be the perfect option to treat your Valentine to a night of pared-back luxury in the heart of Mayfair.

Street food: Wahaca in Oxford Street, Islington and more

Who says a Valentine’s Day date can’t be street food? All the fun and explosion of flavour that comes with tacos and margaritas can be a spectacular way to spend your romantic night. Colourfully vibrant, packed with flavour and perfect for sharing, this Mexican restaurant has expanded its selection of set menus for two, as well as debuting some tasty new specials to mark the occasion. Raise a romantic glass to your loved one – and it’s fiesta time.

Indulge in three courses of seasonal British food complete with canapés and a glass of fizz. Specials include aged longhorn beef and black truffle ravioli with bone marrow butter, Dover sole fillet with Portland crab, lemon and brown shrimp beurre noisette and Valrhona chocolate dome with raspberry and rose water mousse

Art deco elegance: The Pem in Victoria

Theatrical experience: A DC-inspired love story at Park Row in Soho

We all want our Valentine’s meal to be fun and memorable, so what could be better than a theatrical experience? Park Row offers the UK’s first DC-inspired restaurant, celebrating the love story of the Bat and the Cat – DC’s greatest couple. The unique menu, featuring edible lipstick, a broken heart parfait and liquid nitro-dipped roses, will be available Friday 11th to Monday 14th February and each dish will pay tribute to the twisted love of Gotham City’s Batman and Catwoman
