Maternity fashion: Tips for your next outfit choices

Maternity fashion: Tips for your next outfit choices

Pregnancy can bring so many new things: new life, new priorities, a new body and a new wardrobe! For many women who are expecting, feeling good in clothing can be a challenge because dressing confidently for a developing figure takes some know-how. It’s a tricky time to shop, as the body is constantly changing, so there’s a balance to draw between finding appropriate maternity clothes that both fit well and also have some longevity.

Pregnant women are truly beautiful, and each and every one deserves to feel like the goddess she is during that special time. For all the goddesses out there, here are some top tips for your maternity wear.

Form-fitting pieces

Though many women might feel the need to cover weight gain with looser clothing, expectant mothers can also celebrate their growing bump with form-fitting pieces. Comfortable options like leggings and jersey dresses can be paired with fun accessories to explore a rainbow of colour and style possibilities, from bright prints to classic black.

Cute but comfy shoes

Anyone who’s carrying a child knows that the feet suffer first, mostly due to increased water retention during those nine months. Any amount of time standing leads to swollen feet and ankles for a pregnant woman – and it even happens during a day on the sofa! For that reason, comfortable shoes are an absolute must, but that doesn’t necessarily mean sacrificing fashion-forward footwear. Pretty ballerina flats are a great direction to go in when the weather is warm, or chic leather boots will work well when it’s not (with elastic panels for extra stretch) – and of course there are always chic trainers.

Adaptable options

Maternity wear can be expensive, especially since many garments are quickly outgrown. It’s a great idea to invest in some items that will last throughout the pregnancy, postpartum or even beyond. An oversized blazer is a great investment, along with shirt-style dresses that tie at the waist, maxi dresses, jumper dresses, denim jackets, and cardigans. There are even coats with panels that can be added or subtracted.

Floaty and cool

Being pregnant when it’s hot is intense, so this is a great moment to check out breezier options. Floaty garments in light fabrics can really fit the bill. Anyone who’s worried about looking like they’re “wearing a tent” just needs to balance roomier pieces with a more form-fitting top or bottom, and of course, accessories can make all the difference.

Statement accessories

In the later stages it can be harder and harder to feel stylish, as clothing possibilities get fewer and bigger, but there’s no better way to make an outfit more exciting than by adding some eye-catching accessories. A statement bag, hat, necklace, or sunglasses will elevate any look to keep that goddess confidence till the big day comes.
