Bar Benfiddich, the Tokyo establishment recently named Japan’s Best Bar 2025 and currently ranked 18th in The World’s 50 Best Bars, will host a one-night takeover at The Bar at China Tang at The Dorchester in London on 4th March. The event marks the first appearance in the United Kingdom for Bar Benfiddich’s owner and bartender, Hiroyasu Kayama, as part of the bar’s 2026 UK tour, organised with the support of Akashi-Tai.

The takeover will feature a special six-cocktail menu, with four drinks created by Kayama and two by China Tang’s assistant bar manager, Levs Surovecs. The event is part of a broader series of spring initiatives at China Tang, which also includes extended late-night opening hours and the introduction of weekly live music.

Bar Benfiddich is recognised for its craft-led and seasonal approach to bartending, with a focus on meticulous preparation and balance of flavours. The bar, situated in Tokyo, has gained international recognition for its distinctive style and is currently the highest-ranked bar in Tokyo according to The World’s 50 Best Bars. Kayama’s cocktails for the event will include ingredients such as Hatozaki Whisky and Akashi-Tai Sake, with Japanese fruits and garnishes supplied by Avanti Asia. Guests attending the takeover will be welcomed with a complimentary glass of sparkling sake, courtesy of Akashi-Tai. Cocktails will be priced at £20 each.

The event is being coordinated by China Tang’s bar manager, Erik Lanza, and assistant bar manager, Levs Surovecs, as part of an ongoing programme of collaborations and new menu developments. 

In addition to the Bar Benfiddich event, China Tang will extend its opening hours from 1st March, allowing guests to stay later into the evening. Weekly live music performances will also be introduced on Wednesdays at 8 pm from 18th March.

Since opening in 2005, China Tang at The Dorchester has established itself as a leading Cantonese dining destination in London. The restaurant was conceived by the late Sir David Tang and presents Art Deco-inspired interiors, signature Peking Duck, and an extensive dim sum menu. China Tang is operated by Lai Sun Dining, a Hong Kong-based hospitality group.
