British chefs Mark Hix and Mitch Tonks to reunite for exclusive culinary event at Portugal’s Quinta de La Rosa winery

British chefs Mark Hix and Mitch Tonks will reunite for a two-day culinary event in Portugal’s Douro Valley this November. Hosted at the family-run Quinta de La Rosa winery, Tonnix on Tour will feature a four-course seasonal dinner with wine pairings, vineyard tours, tastings and a chance to learn more about the chefs’ longstanding collaboration. The experience aims to bring together food enthusiasts for an immersive stay centred on regional produce and local wines.

The occasion marks a continuation of Hix and Tonks’ partnership, which began over 15 years ago during a visit to Quinta de La Rosa. Their collaboration led to the creation of Tonnix, a bespoke wine produced at the estate, featuring a label designed by artist Tracey Emin. The upcoming event will offer guests the opportunity to experience the setting where this partnership was forged and to taste the Tonnix wine alongside other offerings from the winery.

Guests will arrive on 6th November, welcomed with an aperitif before a traditional Portuguese dinner. Pedro Cardoso, executive chef at the estate’s restaurant Cozinha da Clara, will be creating the meal, which will be served in the estate’s barrel room and paired with La Rosa wines and ports. On 7th November, Sophia Bergqvist, sixth-generation winemaker and owner of Quinta de La Rosa, will lead a guided vineyard tour and tasting, providing insights into the estate’s history and production methods. The day allows free time for guests to explore the local area, including the nearby town of Pinhão or the Douro River.

The highlight of the experience takes place on the evening of 7th November, when Hix and Tonks will cook a four-course dinner focused on regional and seasonal produce, each course paired with Tonnix wine and port. The chefs will host, offering guests the chance to interact with them in an informal setting.

Mark Hix is committed to championing seasonal British ingredients and has had a significant influence on London’s restaurant scene, while Mitch Tonks is recognised for his advocacy of sustainable seafood and his work as an ambassador for the Marine Stewardship Council. Both chefs have authored multiple cookbooks and are involved in various food-related ventures and environmental initiatives.

The event is priced at £900 per person, with suite upgrades available at an additional cost. Guests depart on 8th November, with the option to continue their travels in Portugal or return home.
