Engel launches Marlene Brunch series with live jazz, soul and burlesque at the Royal Exchange

Engel, the cocktail bar and restaurant within The Royal Exchange in London, is launching a new Saturday brunch series called the Marlene Brunch. The fun begins on 18th October and will feature live performances from jazz, soul and burlesque acts, alongside a curated menu with the aim of bringing a new cultural and culinary experience to City of London’s weekend dining scene.

The opening turn will feature soul singer Selina Albright, who has appearanced at Cadogan Hall and Berk’s Jazz Festival. Future acts include burlesque performer Miss Jolie Papillon, jazz vocalist Natalie Williams, The Voice UK winner Jermain Jackman and swing singer Atila Huseyin. The title for the series is a tribute to German-American actress and singer Marlene Dietrich, whose Der Blaue Engel inspired the name of the venue.

Located on the mezzanine level of the Grade I listed Royal Exchange, Engel’s bar draws inspiration from the glamour and hedonism of 1920s Berlin, and will serve as the backdrop for the entertainment. The venue’s interior was designed by Karen Taylor of Pattern Haus and features vintage-inspired décor.

The brunch menu has been developed by chefs Samantha Williams and Lorena Tomassi, featuring dishes with German and Austrian influences. Guests can choose between two or three courses, with house options including Steak and Eggs and Apfelstrudel. The meal can be paired with bottomless Spritz or sparkling wine for an additional charge, and bottles of Ruinart champagne will also be available at a discounted price.

Bookings are available in three time slots on Saturdays: noon till 2pm, 1.30 till 15.30pm, and 2 till 4pm. Prices start at £45 for two courses and £50 for three, with an optional £30 supplement for free-flowing drinks.

Speaking about the launch, organisers said the Marlene Brunch is intended to be “more than just another brunch”, combining food, live entertainment and vintage style at one of London’s historic landmarks.
